Ricoh makes "Global 100" List for 5th year in a row

Ricoh has again been recognised for its industry-leading commitment to corporate social responsibility at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland for the fifth year running.

On Wednesday, Ricoh received its fifth consecutive inclusion in the Global 100 – a list of the world’s most sustainable corporations as compiled by investment analysis and advisory firm, Innovest. The 2009 list includes companies from 15 countries encompassing all sectors of the economy that were evaluated according to how effectively they manage environmental, social and governance risks and opportunities, relative to their industry peers.

Ricoh is one of a select group of companies that has been included in every Global 100 since the list’s inception five years ago.

Ricoh Australia Managing Director, Les Richardson, saw the repeat listing as evidence of the company’s tried and tested management structure and corporate social responsibility charter; attributes that are increasingly crucial during the current global economic crisis.

“At a time when consumers are growing wary of the financial validity of large corporations, the Global 100 serves as a reminder that companies that demonstrate sound management and a commitment to sustainability will continue to survive – and flourish. It’s no surprise that Ricoh is on that list.”

Ricoh’s vision as a global organisation is to reduce its environment footprint collectively to one-eighth of its year 2000 level by 2050.

“Although it’s a long-term goal, we are constantly introducing new, aggressive initiatives to meet our progressive targets. Our environmental management policy is one of our highest corporate priorities and places us amongst the leaders in environmental management and corporate social responsibility,” Richardson said. “It is this vision that directs our overall approach to sustainability and continued success.”

From its inception in February 2005, the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations has outperformed its benchmark (the MSCI World Index) by 480 basis points per annum to end of year 2008.

Matthew Kiernan, CEO of Innovest, whose analysis underpins the list, said, “The continuing out-performance of the Global 100, even in the midst of the current global financial crisis, provides eloquent testimony – and yet more evidence – for investors, company executives, governments and civil society alike: superior positioning and performance on environmental, social and governance issues does provide a valuable leading indicator of better-managed, more agile, ‘future-proof’ companies.”
